Today marked my first race event toward my goal of 10 for 2014. I've set out a goal of two half marathons, and then eight other organized running events, virtual or in person.
In 2013 I participated in six events, including one 5K snowshoe race. I ran a total of 386 miles. I don't set New Year's resolutions, but these are the fitness goals I've committed to for this year:
- Run in 10 events (including 2 half marathons)
- Run 500 miles
- Complete Focus T25 Beta and Gamma rounds
Today was #1 of my 10 events, the
Vancouver Chilly Chase. They had multiple distances and I opted for the 10K. I hadn't run more than 4 miles in a while so the last ten minutes or so proved pretty challenging but it was a good race. I'm not sure of my official time but it's likely 2 minutes longer than I actually ran as I had to make a pit stop in the washroom! I think I will likely show as about a 1:08 but it was closer to 1:06.
As a bit of a re-cap, here are the races I did in 2013. My top two were the Tinker Bell half because Mr. Awesome and I (sort of) ran together and the BMO half because my family watched me cross the finish line.

2013 was a fantastic year for my fitness and I can only hope that 2014 will bring as much inspiration and motivation. I've registered for the Scotiabank half again as it was a great route and a pretty well run event. (Plus it's largely flat or downhill!)
I'm still searching for my second half of the year, so stay tuned! HAPPY 2014!!
